India’s judo prodigy Linthoi Chanambam has once again made the nation proud — this time on the global stage. On October 7, the 19-year-old from Manipur etched her name in history by becoming the first Indian to win a medal at the Junior Judo World Championships, clinching a bronze in the women’s 63kg category.

The event, held in Prague, Czech Republic, witnessed Chanambam’s grit, focus, and unmatched skill as she fought through intense rounds against some of the world’s top young judokas. Her bronze medal marks a watershed moment for Indian judo — a sport that has long awaited recognition at the international level.

Trained under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) and mentored at the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in Bellary, Linthoi’s journey has been one of discipline and determination. From humble beginnings in Manipur to becoming a global face of Indian judo, she has consistently pushed boundaries, inspiring a new generation of athletes from the Northeast and beyond.

Speaking after her victory, Linthoi said, “This medal is not just mine — it belongs to every Indian who believed in me. I hope this inspires more young girls to take up judo and chase their dreams fearlessly.”

Her achievement follows her historic gold at the 2022 Cadet World Judo Championships, making her one of India’s most promising young athletes in combat sports.

As the tricolour rose high in Prague, Linthoi Chanambam’s triumph became more than a sporting victory — it was a testament to resilience, representation, and the power of dreams nurtured in the hills of Manipur.

With this milestone, Linthoi has not only rewritten India’s judo history but also ignited a belief that the future of Indian martial arts is stronger than ever.
