Guwahati is all set to make cricketing history as it hosts its first-ever men’s Test match — the second Test between India and South Africa — at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium from November 22, 2025.

The Assam capital, known for its passionate sports culture, will join the elite list of Indian cities to stage a five-day international game. The match also marks an important leg of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (2025–27), adding high stakes to the contest.

Due to Guwahati’s early sunset, the match timings have been adjusted — play will start at 9 a.m., with an unusual twist in schedule: tea will be taken before lunch, a rare occurrence in Test cricket.

For fans, this is more than just a match — it’s a milestone moment for the Northeast. Barsapara Stadium, which has earlier hosted T20Is and ODIs, has undergone infrastructure upgrades to meet Test standards, with over 35,000 fans expected to fill the stands.

Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, welcomes Rishabh Pant’s return to red-ball cricket, while Temba Bavuma will captain the visiting Proteas. Both sides are eyeing crucial WTC points, and the conditions in Guwahati — cooler mornings and a fresh pitch — promise a challenging battle for batters and bowlers alike.

As the city readies for five days of cricketing drama, Guwahati isn’t just hosting a Test match — it’s hosting history.
